Here’s a confession.

I don’t have a business degree.

Does this mean that I cannot be taken seriously?

Of course not.

In my defense, I have owned a successful business in the UK for 21 years.

The current debate in the UK regarding children missing out on their education due to homeschooling and how they can make up the time has, for me, been food for thought.

When did we give education so many timelines and what is good education and bad?

After all, we all have different strengths and weaknesses. Isn’t life an education?

The Pandemic will bring about change, will it be time to design our own education system?

Don’t get me wrong, I believe in education, wholeheartedly. It’s what I do every day.

But when did we start to believe that personal and educational growth, leading to professional roles could only be accessed through the educational system in our teenage years?

In my opinion, this causes pressure and possibly leads to a lack of motivation, especially if a young person loses hope, believing they have lost out through the timing of their education.

All the media coverage, arguments between politicians, medics, and educational bodies have been speculated on a daily basis.

I decided to investigate, I googled the Spanish flu, the last pandemic in 1918. documented and plainly there to see, some of our most well-known historical characters lived and even survived the flu.

One of them was Walt Disney.

In 1918, Walt was only 16 years of age when he was struck down with the flu. The flu infected over 500 million people and killed somewhere between 50 million — 100 million people. This led to strict quarantine rules and due to there being no vaccinations, people were asked to wear masks and strict hygiene was enforced (ring any bells?). The pandemic started in March 1918 and came to an end in Summer 1919.

Luckily Walt survived and the rest is history. He became the most famous animator in the world.

This man, so well known for his artistic talent achieved so much. He didn’t have a university degree, he had determination and talent.

I believe that we need to see education as a lifetime achievement and I predict that a new way of education will come forward after this time of Covid19. We will value experience and entrepreneurial accomplishment.

The world has many interesting intelligent people in it. Not all have a piece of paper to prove it.

Something that our young people need to hear.
